Thankful Thursday

Welcome to thankful Thursday. This post is a great reminder to always be thankful. Today I am thankful for new opportunities and great support from family and friends. I wrapped up my time at my last job and said my goodbyes. It was great working with my last team and I felt close to most of them. My eyes are turned to the future and the new things I will learn, new friendships will be developed, and I'm expecting to find job satisfaction. I have hope that this will be great.

The Machine

This blog is inspired by my shrinking confidence in my experience, my education, my strengths, and my network. Finding a job is demeaning. Finding the right job is worse than finding a needle in a haystack.

I have deemed job hunting The Machine. We are all pieces in this machine. The human resources department for thousands of companies is constantly sifting through thousands of resumes. Each applicant is another widget in the machine and sadly has very little control over their future of their career. Each manager is a sprocket in the machine incapable of finding the right candidate to fill the opening.

Thinking about The Machine is depressing.  It leaves little hope for the little guy looking for something better. My tiny silver lining is that I have a job. Its not a great job. It pays less than the last one and is essentially the same tasks that I hated in the last job. So much for moving ahead in the career world.

My pessimism is compounded by the fact that I didn't do anything wrong. I played by the rules. I found contacts and gave them my resume. I have nothing to show for my work. I expect that I will find that needle and I expect it will take a long time.

Understanding and cupcakes

Dear Lord,
Thank you for giving me the wisdom to know, that I will not understand the peace that I have and the reason for where you've placed me.  The desires of my heart will be mine in Your time and I will be ready when its time. Amen.

I have hope for the future. I continue to pray for things to change. But for now, I know I'm where I am supposed to be.

Nutrition has been off today. I ate a cupcake and a bag of fritos. I managed my extra calories though by not eating a second cupcake and choosing to eat fritos over the high calorie cookies. Tomorrows nutrition will be off as well but I'll find a way to manage.  Someday I will be able to announce weight loss and I look forward to it.

Hump day

When the week gets long and wearisome, its good to look towards the future. Thinking about fun activities or something exciting that is coming up helps me stay positive. I'm reminded of Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things."

Dreaming


I’m a dreamer and that usually entails big dreams for an exciting future. I do my best to find a way to make it happen. I don’t stop at dreaming. I get out and get things accomplished.


I am dreaming of my perfect job. The days will feel so short because I enjoyed every part of it. I’ll get excited when I think about this job and on my way to work. I will feel energized and enthusiastic. My creativity will soar to new heights. This is a good future.


Dear Lord, please provide the wisdom, patience, and strength necessary to get to this bright future. I know its coming and at the same time I can get so impatient with what I have today. I am thankful that you have provided this opportunity and I pray doors open to more thrilling opportunities. Amen!

Super Sunday


Today’s rating is Positive.


I have had to deal with a lot of stress in the past two years. There have been strategies that have helped me. Other strategies were not helpful. Keeping forward thinking and focused has been difficult. I find that when I dwell on the past, I can get more upset. If I can think about the future especially fun things in the future, then I can avoid a lot of pain. If you are dealing with a lot of stress, find things to be excited about that are in the future.


I was excited about today because I got together with the Pedals and Pints and enjoyed a bike ride with a few pints in-between the rides. I am looking forward to a special dinner on Wednesday at Rock Bottom. These are things that can help me stay positive, excited, and happy; even in the midst of stress. What could you be excited about? It might help you move past some stress too.
