Make A Difference Monday

The COPA Reefers band had two gigs this weekend. I play keyboards for the band. Depending on the song I'll use steel drums, strings, and a rock organ. I do use the regular piano sound but the steel drums seem to be more popular. In a sense this makes me a percussionist, an assessment that I'm ok with. I did play auxiliary percussion in high school. My history with music is long and varied. Such a blessing! At times, I'm surprised at my muscle memory and memory of chords. The years of rote memorization and practicing has paid off. I never would have expected that.

In other news, we raised $200.00 in tips to donate to COPA Cares, the local parrothead 501 c 3 non profit, which will help club members who were devastated by the tornado. 

Other news, severe weather is predicted for Wednesday. I'm starting to panic now because I don't know if that will be a tornado or not. It could be a tornado. Eek! Please stay tuned for travel Tuesday!

Make a Difference Monday

Welcome to Make a Difference Monday. This is where I like to showcase volunteerism, encouraging each other, and all things positive. Today, I would like to share with you my current project. I am on a committee that is organizing a bowling tournament in Oklahoma City, called "Fins for Pins". It's sponsored by the Central Oklahoma Parrothead Association. Yes, I am a Parrothead and proud of it. We party for a purpose. "Fins for Pins" benefits the Work Activity Center in Moore, Oklahoma. This fine organization gives disabled adults the opportunity to have a steady job and contribute to the economy. Without this center, they would not have jobs. We are currently looking for lane sponsors and if you are interested please comment below and I'll get back to you right away. I am not very good at fundraising because I don't like to ask for money but I try to give back where I can. Please stay tuned for Top Pic Tuesday.     

Make a Difference Monday

Dear Bloggy Friends,
Whenever possible it is good to give back to your community. Find your passion and volunteer with it. I enjoy too many hobbies to count (oops.) On occasion, I can be found volunteering at an art gallery or I have taught piano lessons to under-priviledged children. I have plans to crochet scarves for the needy and someday I hope to learn how to make hats (round seems too hard at the moment.) I love animals but could never volunteer with them. If an opportunity came to run a race or volunteer at an auction, I would happily oblige. There's never a shortage of opportunities.

The only problem I have discovered is many of these fabulous non-profits need money. A lot of money. I never have enough for myself (in my own opinion.) I also am not interested in calling people for money or any other type of fundraising. The good news is I can do what I like and it still provides assistance to worthy organizations.

Please tell me what you have done or would like to do. Its always fun to share ideas. I decided it would be fun to change my blog design a little. What do you think?
