Weight Loss Wednesday

It is obvious to me that I do have a problem with food. I do not know portion control and self control. Last night, I was at Bricktown Brewery enjoying a good bye party for my friend. Congratulating her on the move to Dallas. (A bigger and better city than Oklahoma City, in my mind. Sorry, Okies. I haven't embraced OKC fully yet. I blame that on the tornadoes.)

Chips were ordered and I didn't stop eating them. I dipped in the guacamole and queso for most of the night. Then I had the brilliant idea to order a chicken quesadilla. Which I ate more than half. Topped off with 3 Coors light. I was not ready to weigh in this morning. I dreaded it. I went to spin class and then after I did step on the scale.

137.6

This is exactly one pound more than last week. I had to look into the myfitnesspal archives to feel better. Over a year ago, I weighed in at 142. In 2008, I weighed in over 149. Progress has been made. I know some of that pound is from last night but I have to believe some of that pound is from muscle gain. Two weeks ago, I switched to classes instead of mostly running. Monday/Wednesday is spin and Tuesday/Thursday is body pump.

Lastly, I can't look to just the scale. How do my clothes feel? I know from past experience what feels tight in my clothes and that's not what I'm feeling today. Progress has been made. While I know the struggle will never end and I know I have a problem, I will continue my journey and focus on good health.

The scale is a JERK.

Here's a another photo of Chomps and Kirby. They are cute and annoying at the same time. I'm linking up with Ashley at Ash's Step in the Right Direction for Weigh In Wednesday.

Weight Loss Wednesday

Stepping the scale daily is not healthy for me. Weight naturally fluctuates and I don't need to drive myself nuts trying to micromanage my weight. My friend only weighs in once a month and as I sit here writing this post, that may be the way for me to go as well. I have been doing weekly weighins and I am still noticing a regular fluctuation by about two pounds. Possibly that's not a big deal, especially if my clothes still fit.

For now, I will keep the weekly weighins since I need to monitor my progress. As I have worked towards my goal, I have learned that that maintenance is particularly difficult. My brain is chemically sabotaging me to gain the weight back. I have been at or above 150 twice and over 140 once. I will always need a lazer focus to make sure I don't go back to 150.

For a bonus holiday eating tip, you must continue to count calories the entire holiday season. Counting calories keeps you accountable to what goes in and what you expend with exercise. If you keep a good diary through myfitnesspal.com, you will likely not gain weight. I usually put in breakfast, lunch, snacks, and exercise. My goal is to leave about 400 calories for dinner at the end of the day. I don't usually enter dinner because it is homemade and that's tough to count.

Don't you love all the food photos? I do that to show you how I constantly struggle too. Do you need someone to coach you torwards your weight loss goal? I'd love to help you. I can help you with nutrition and recommendations in the gym. I can constantly encourage you to meet your goals and stick to your plan.

Weight Loss Wednesday: random edition

Welcome to weight loss Wednesday! Last week, I gained a pound and now weigh 135. Usually, that would be too high but my shorts fit perfectly. 135 last summer compared to now is not the same body. Impressively, the Northface shorts I purchased ages ago, we're talking years here, never ever fit. For fun, I tried them on and they fit! I'm over the moon excited! I need a hiking trip to have an excuse to wear them!

I've decided, with the huge shorts victory that the scale is not that big of a deal. Breakthrough!

In other news, we are in for two stormy days in Oklahoma. I'm terrified!

Weight Loss Wednesday

Dear friends,
Over the past few months, you have encouraged and supported me. I can't thank you enough. I will be getting on the scale this Saturday. If the scale is nice, I will tweet. Today, I completed day 11 of the abs challenge. It's not getting easier and I assume my abs are getting really strong. Sit-ups are no joke! Yesterday, I enjoyed a sundae, with a friend, called chocolate nirvana at Kaiser's. It was heavenly and I planned ahead for the splurge. Waking up this morning, I felt fine, instead of a beached whale. I've gotten that feeling before and it does not suit me. Please stay tuned to Thankful Thursday, which is a count down of 1000 thankful thoughts (ten a week.) Linking up with Erin.

Weight loss Wednesday

Welcome to weight loss Wednesday. I am focusing my energy on healthy weight loss, fitness and nutrition. My first weigh-in since completing the cleanse was a bust. The scale said I lost 0.6 pounds in two weeks. Usually, I can lose a pound a week and I expected to lose more considering the restrictive cleanse I had participated in. Thankfully, my clothes fit better and I am wearing pants that did not fit in January. The scale can't be trusted any longer. I would like to continue weekly weigh-ins to keep track of progress and ensure I'm heading in the correct direction. I will not trust the scale any longer though.

This weeks lunches was a jar of salad with chicken from the deli counter sliced thickly, spinach, artichokes, and low fat Caesar dressing. I paired that with fat free yogurt and snacks of vegetables, fruit, and granola. Dinners have been veggies, brown rice or pasta, and some meat. I will hopefully see a more friendly number on the scale but its steered me wrong before.

I am looking for guest posts for weight loss Wednesday. Please let me know if you'd like to share your story. I'm linking up with Erin and Alex for weigh-in Wednesday.

Weight Loss Wednesday list edition

Welcome to weight loss Wednesday list edition.

1- I haven't stepped on a scale in over a week.
2- I'm considering diet changes: paleo or gluten free?
3- I thought about the raw food diet for a few days for a cleanse but truthfully I don't think there's enough fruits, veggies, and nuts that I can eat without hating the entire idea.
4- There was devilish brownies with peanut butter and Oreos plus sopapillas at work yesterday, which I did not eat.
5- I drank two bud light limes with a dinner of wings yesterday. I have photographic evidence.
6- I have been at Starbucks every morning this week, since carpooling is great except I'd be at work an hour early.
7- A better idea, would be to go to the gym but first I have to join and pay for it.
8- Tonight, we will have fish for dinner.
9- Tomorrow, I hope to have massive meatballs for dinner.
10- How has your weight loss journey been?

Please stay tuned for thankful Thursday.

Weight loss Wednesday:Guest post

I am super excited to have Katie visiting from KTJWeighing In! Thanks for guest posting Katie!

The Power of the Scale

Hi everyone! I'm Katie from ktjweighingin.com and I was asked to guest post this week for Weight Loss Wednesday. Today I thought I'd write a little bit about the power the scale has over us.

A commercial, that I actually posted on my blog yesterday, had me thinking - why do we allow a number to define so much of our lives?

(The Special K commercial can be found here: here)

It is true. The scale has too much power over us. Too many of us measure our success based on the number the scale says. We look back at pictures and cringe. We remember stages of our life based on our weight at the time. We tell ourselves that we will do this or that activity, but only once we hit our goal weight.

I am guilty of this thinking also. It seems like I am still at the beginning of my weight loss journey, but really my journey started at least 15 years ago. I've always been overweight. I've tried tons of diets and my story is probably very similar to so many others. Things have been different this time. I've learned that to really do this that it has to be the right time in your life. You have to really want it and you have to be willing to change.

I've been changing my life for about 5 months now and I have lost 30 pounds. But really the number isn't what is important. I can't let the speed of my weight loss define my success, and neither should you!

Here is a quote I love:

"The scale can't measure your will, your drive, how much time you put into your food plan, or how many temptations you said no to. It can't tell how many old habits you broke or new, healthier habits you started. It doesn't know the effort you put in at the gym , and it doesn't care. It won't heap praise on you because you chose the stairs over the elevator or know that you passed on a slice of a colleague's birthday cake even though you wanted it with all your heart.
Most of all, the scale doesn't have any idea how hard you're trying, or how many times you overcame a slip and got back on track when you felt like giving it all up together. Only you know that."
- Kim Bensen, "Finally Thin"

So together let's stop giving the scale power and focus not on the amount of weight lost, but on the number of healthier choices we make. Enjoy life and don't sit on the sidelines waiting to reach your goal weight.

If you are currently working on making a healthier you or are thinking about starting, you can receive an awesome prize pack from my first giveaway ever!

Weight Loss Wednesday

Welcome to Weight Loss Wednesday!
This post is dedicated to my progress, tips, tricks, and all things health/fitness.
Recently, I weighed in for the first time in 2 weeks and I was floored by the scale. I am still not sure if it is correct or not. The scale said I had lost 5 pounds. That would be 2.5 pounds every week. My best week was a two pounder week, and that is why I am skeptical of this weigh in.
Next weigh in will be in another two weeks.
To all my bloggy friends and readers: I am encouraged when you comment on this post about your progress and I love to comment on your blogs as well. Let's link up!
Please leave me a comment today and we will link up next week.
Please stay tuned for Thankful Thursday: Cookie Edition.
