Make A Difference Monday

A big storm was coming and we knew it. Most big storms go around us and we didn't think it was a big deal. A movie was our big plans for the night. We walk over from our downtown apartment and find our friends sitting in the park. The last tornado was a mile south of their home and they weren't taking any chances. After visiting, we continued on  and went to a restaurant for a light dinner. The tv was blasted and we watched the weather carefully. It was 20 miles west of us. That's not a problem. These storms always go around downtown.
We made it to the theater and got settled in for the movie. After the previews, the movie started but stopped before the credits were over. Management came in to explain the situation. The movie continues for about 10 or 15 minutes and then stops with no explanation. We find out that it's possibly headed our way. We wait in the halls of the theater. Waiting. Within 10 minutes, it's howling outside. It looked like a hurricane in TV, since I've never seen one in real life. After the fact we learned the tornado went south, as usual but it was so powerful. Tons of wind and rain and lightening and thunder. The movie was 6:30 and we left the theater at 8:50. There was a small window between tornadoes, seriously?, and we might make it home. It was lightly raining and we were booking it. Walking/running through puddles the size of small ponds. Once home, we had partial power and the storms came back up with a vengeance. That was my close call. I didn't want to leave the safety of the theater but I didn't want to stay there all night.

It was a crazy walk home! I don't have a lot of money to give back but I try to volunteer when the opportunity arises. Below are some organizations I'm connected with tightly and loosely. Give money if you can or give time. What you have will help someone. COPA Cares

Make a difference Monday

Welcome to make a difference Monday! Here's where I share stories of giving back, volunteering, and making our world a better place.

I love playing piano and have done it all my life. It's fun and nerve wracking to play for others. Wouldn't it be cool if I played at a hospital or a retirement facility? There's lots of research behind music as a therapy and there's nothing better than live music! I'd never do it for money but I'd love the opportunity.

If you know of any nonprofit in oklahoma city that could use my gift, please let me know. Also, what's your favorite way to give back? I'm looking for guest posts to expand the make a difference Monday love. Please stay tuned for weight loss Wednesday!

Make a difference Monday

Welcome to make a difference Monday! Giving back to the community, paying it forward and making our world a better place is important to our well being and others.

Today I would like to share with you about giving blood. I hate the sight of blood (it grosses and freaks me out) and I hate needles. I find comfort in the cookies that I eat afterwards. When we give blood up to three people's lives are saved. I have been doing this act for some years and even with my phobias I know good has been done. I'm gonna need to head over there soon and give blood again.

If you have an encouraging story of giving back or paying it forward, please comment below or email me at estherdavison@gmail.com. I am looking for guest posters. Please stay tuned for top pic Tuesday!

Serious Sunday

Welcome to Serious Sunday. I have goals. For the blog, my goal is to be a big time blogger with tons of followers, readers, friends, fans and the like.
This blog is supposed to be entertaining and hope you enjoy my little posts. The photos are meant to be beautiful and intriguing.
Finally, I love to link up with you. I am not a big time blogger and do not support myself through this labor of love.
But I love to give in little ways.
If you get that, maybe we can link up sometime.
Send me a message.
Please stay tuned for Make a Difference Monday.

Thanks for being my friend and follower.

Thankful Thursday and "Pay it Forward"

Dear Chomps and Kirby,
I am so thankful for you. You help me stay happy and positive. Your sweetness melts my heart.
Dear Kirby,
You are so sweet in your little trusting way. You love your head scratched and you love to preen while getting your head scratched. Your silliness makes me smile. You are very adorable and I'm so thankful that you have been a part of my life.
Dear Chomps,
You're so sweet, especially in the morning. I love it when you're tired. You look up at me with sleepy eyes and start to purr as I'm petting you. Your fur is so soft and I love to pet you.

The stress relief I receive from these two furballs is amazing. It has been work and at times frustrating to take care of the kitties but they take such good care of me. They deserve the world!

Please join me in Thankful Thursday and share what you are thankful for.

Pay It Forward!

I've seen this "pay it forward" idea floating around on several different blogs, and when I saw this on Kim's blog the KO Jewelry, I wanted participate in the fun!

Here are the rules:
  • Within a year, I'll create something unique to share with the first three people to comment on this post.
  • In order to receive your present, you have to play along. Spread the love on your own blog!
  • You get 72 hours (3 whole days!) to re-post, or I'll have to move on to the next person.
  • Please Only comment if you're willing to pay it forward!
Doesn't it sound like fun? I'm ready to get started, so let me know if you want in!

Make a Difference Monday

Dear Bloggy Friends,
Whenever possible it is good to give back to your community. Find your passion and volunteer with it. I enjoy too many hobbies to count (oops.) On occasion, I can be found volunteering at an art gallery or I have taught piano lessons to under-priviledged children. I have plans to crochet scarves for the needy and someday I hope to learn how to make hats (round seems too hard at the moment.) I love animals but could never volunteer with them. If an opportunity came to run a race or volunteer at an auction, I would happily oblige. There's never a shortage of opportunities.

The only problem I have discovered is many of these fabulous non-profits need money. A lot of money. I never have enough for myself (in my own opinion.) I also am not interested in calling people for money or any other type of fundraising. The good news is I can do what I like and it still provides assistance to worthy organizations.

Please tell me what you have done or would like to do. Its always fun to share ideas. I decided it would be fun to change my blog design a little. What do you think?
