Breakfast Burrito Champions in OKC.

The following is a list of my favorite breakfast burritos in Oklahoma City. I have been to quite a few places and there are more to discover. I have added hyperlinks for you to go and check each place out online.
This beautiful burrito is from Cafe Evoke in Edmond. It's full of egg, cheese, meat, and potatoe. And today it was prepared in advance, which worked out marvelously.
This is an old pic of the yummy insides.
This is the next burrito champion from Kamps 1910 in Oklahoma City. Same high level ingredients and it was definitely another champion in my books.
This larger than life burrito is from Picasso Cafe in Oklahoma City and its on the brunch menu. It was huge and super good! Tons of cheese, meat, eggs and potatoes. The meat is chorizo, a very nice touch. I will say, it is a little too large, which is not a problem.
I absolutely adore this burrito from Fuzzy's Taco Shop, which is a chain with multiple locations. It's the perfect combination of meat, egg and cheese. The bacon is probably my favorite but chorizo and sausage are also options. Isn't bacon always perfect for breakfast burritos?
Honorable mention goes to Perk Place in Edmond. It's super cheesy and there is bacon or sausage as an option. There is no potatoe and it's a little small. So these are the breakfast burrito champions of Oklahoma City. As I get to other places, I will do a Part II.

Tip Tuesday

Today's tip is to always eat breakfast (but a donut is not nutritious, I just wanted to have a good photo to start with.) I met someone tonight who works at a grocery store and is there very early in the morning, which is where she buys her breakfast. On the spot, I tried to come up with healthier ideas besides the three slices of bacon she has been eating. I offered oatmeal and yogurt but she didn't like either idea. Whole wheat toast came up but this store doesn't have a toaster.

Here is a list of breakfasts that I have in rotation or previously enjoyed:
Oatmeal (a variety of flavors and quick or steel cut)
Meal replacement shake (chocolate is my fave but I haven't had it in a year)
Special K breakfast sandwiches
Starbucks turkey bacon sandwich
Homemade fiber one muffins
Two eggs cooked at home with Pam

Here's a list of other ideas that I have not eaten but would be a good choice:
Yogurt
Smoothie
Cottage cheese
Whole wheat toast with honey
Egg white omelet
Crust less quiche
Cold cereal with fat free milk (this is not in my rotation because I find the serving sizes are usually too small to be satisfying.)
What do you eat for breakfast? Are you currently skipping it? I'd recommend against skipping breakfast because your body needs fuel to have energy. Breakfast is also useful for getting your metabolism started each morning. When you wake up, your body is depleted of nutrients and energy. You might not know it or feel it, but you do need breakfast.

Tip Tuesday

How about that turkey? I enjoyed tons of good food on Thursday and I felt that I did overeat but not too much. I am getting to know what I can and can't do. Staying within personal limits is a nonscale victory!

Today's tip is to eat breakfast. After a long nights sleep, your body is ready and looking for fuel. Skipping breakfast is harmful because your body has to find fuel elsewhere (and elsewhere is not good for you. This makes losing weight difficult!)

I managed to eat the same lunch for 3 years, give or take a few months, and I seriously burned myself out on it. Fortunately, I have found a way to switch up my breakfasts. Right now, I am all about oatmeal (which photographs horribly). I've made steel cut oats with water or milk, pumpkin, peanut butter, brown sugar, wheat germ, and cocoa powder. I've attempted overnight oats, not bad but just did not work for me. I'm not done experimenting with oatmeal either but I am taking a break from the steel cut oats. I've done that for almost a year!

What do you like for breakfast? I love talking about food and if you can't tell, I photograph it and post it all over my blog.

Weight Loss Wednesday

Welcome to weight loss Wednesday. Today I wanted to share my breakfast with you. This week, I spent time on Sunday to prepare steel cut oats. I simmered the oats in milk and then portioned it out for each day. When it came time to eat, I scooped in some pumpkin and sprinkled some cinnamon. It has been completely delicious so far and I'm wondering if it will be good by the end of the week. The oats have a wonderful chew to them, a texture that I'm enjoying. If it works this week, I will do it again because I am working towards reducing my sugar intake. All those easy to make oatmeals have tons of sugar that I don't need.
Its your turn. What tips or tricks have worked for you that you would like to share?
Thanks and stay tuned for Thankful Thursday!

Breakfast?

I’m ready for breakfast now! The house smells like blueberry muffins. Its from a box but that’s not what I’m thinking about. I’m thinking fresh baked blueberry muffins is perfect for an evening snack. Maybe I’ll wait for breakfast.

Maybe.

Yummy Thursday

Today’s rating is positive.

I gave back to my community by giving blood today and I treated myself to a lot of food. I enjoyed two breakfasts, nachos, and cookies. I am also drinking plenty of water. One of my favorite ways to reduce stress is to help out others. It is a strong self-esteem booster. I plan on volunteering regularly again. I am on a break to create a new strategy but I will be helping the community again soon. How do you give back to your community? If you haven’t tried, do something small. It will make a big difference in your perspective.

I hate blood, needles, and pain. I only give blood to help others and eat cookies. The cookies ease the pain a little bit. Thanks Bonfils!
